CRAFT DESIGN STUDIO
Kenny is Principal of Craft Design Studio, PLLC, an architecture firm specializing in authentic, traditionally rooted design, in an urban context. He brings experience, passion and knowledge of urban design and traditional architecture principles to the human scale of buildings and details that make or break the character of a place. Kenny is particularly passionate about architecture that is derived from a deep understanding of local, regional, cultural, climate based, and other contextual patterns of traditional architecture. This studied and responsive approach to character definition often results in unexpected but deeply rooted architecture that contributes to a distinctive and intensely local character. Ultimately however, it is the urban form that is the most important and impacting to the built environment. Because of this, the work of Craft Design Studio is above all else committed to the principles of New Urbanism.
Kenny has experience in a wide range of projects from affordable housing to high-end residential, from historic preservation to urban oriented retail and commercial projects. He has also participated as a team member on domestic and international Charrettes with Town Planning and Urban Design Collaborative (TPUDC), and Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ).
Kenny currently serves as the Director of Design for the South Main Neighborhood, a 40-acre TND in Buena Vista Colorado, planned by Dover Kohl, where he oversees all aspects of design and implementation. He has also designed numerous projects at South Main while advancing the concept of a “South Main Style”, an indigenous, locally distinct architectural character, rooted and suited to it’s locale.
Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Kenny is a registered architect in South Carolina, Colorado and North Carolina. He is a LEED accredited professional, a participating member of the Congress for the New Urbanism, the New Urban Guild, the ICA & CA, and INTBAU.
